Ariza Sponsors Petite Martinique Whitsuntide Regatta 2019

The weekend of Friday 7th June – Monday 10th June climaxed the Petite Martinique Whitsuntide Regatta festivals with four days of cultural and traditional performances, dances, various categories of boat racing, excitement onshore activities, and live artiste performances in a carnival like atmosphere.

This year’s regatta attracted scores of Grenadians living in the diaspora, Vincentians, Carriacouans and mainlanders. The weekend kicked off with a welcome ceremony on the Tennis Court followed by traditional flambeau dance, led by Hon. Kindra Stewart, Parliamentary Representative for Carriacou and Petite Martinique. The welcome party continued throughout the night with other cultural dances and performances.

The energy continued into Saturday morning as sailors readied their boats for all day racing, including the Around- the-Island race. While these races took place, onshore spectators participated in various activities.  Saturday’s activities did not end there, in fact Saturday night revelers were treated to live music performances from Trinidad’s soca stars Nadia Batson and Terry Lions, Grenada’s very own V’ghn, Mr. Gold’n from Carriacou and backed by the Sensual Chocolate Band from Carriacou.

Sunday was not short of excitement, as boat races and onshore activities continued. Sunday climaxed with a DJ clash and show on the Petite Martinique Hardcourt. On Monday morning, revelers took to the streets for the famous Petite Martinique J’ouvert, parading the streets of Petite Martinique. By now, many will think that spectators, revelers and boat men were tired, but that was not the case as boat racers continued right after with more exciting onshore activities. The curtain was brought down on Monday night with the closing and awards ceremony.

Ariza Credit Union is committed to developing the communities in which we operate and as such will continue to sponsor initiatives like these throughout Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique. Soon, both Carriacou and Petite Martinique will benefit from the construction of a new state of the art Ariza branch in Carriacou. The tentative official launch of this facility will be in July 2019.

As part of Ariza’s 2019 sponsorship participants in the various boat races and onshore activities received vouchers valued at $110.00. Racers as well as spectators and other participants were treated to Ariza tokens which included mugs, mason jars and calculators for all the kids participating in the festival.

Ariza Credit Union will like to extend a hearty congratulations to all the winners and participants in the various categories. We also want to extend a thank you to the Petite Martinique Whitsuntide Regatta committee under the leadership of Terrance Logan for allowing us to partner with them for this all-important festival. We commend the committee, volunteers and all others who assisted in making the festival a success.
