Job Summary
The job holder will be responsible for:
Providing reliable support to the Manager of Internal Audit, in maintaining an efficient internal audit department by conducting audits as well as evaluating the adequacy of internal controls and governance processes, and the level of compliance with policies, procedures, statutory and regulatory obligations.
Key responsibilities:
- Assists in the execution of audits in compliance with audit standards and internal procedures while maintaining independence and objectivity.
- Assists in the review and assessment of internal controls, policies, and procedures for completeness and effectiveness to mitigate process risks.
- Produces quality workpapers that adhere to internal documented standards and requirements of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA).
- Provides guidance to the Internal Auditor I.
- Develops and maintains a sound professional relationship with Auditees.
- Attends meetings with Auditees to discuss audit findings with focus on business risk, control weaknesses and operational efficiency improvements.
- Drafts audit reports for review in a timely manner with actionable recommendations to address control gaps.
- Assists in performing ongoing follow-up reviews to determine timeliness and adequacy of action plan implementation, to address reported weaknesses.
- Develops audit work plans and risk-based audit programmes.
Qualification, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- A Bachelor’s degree in accounting or pursuing a recognised professional accounting qualification such as ACCA, CIMA, CPA.
- Minimum five (5) years’ auditing experience; experience working with or auditing in a financial institution.
- Extensive knowledge of general accounting, auditing and reporting principles; strong knowledge of applicable laws, regulations and by-laws.
- Comprehensive understanding of risk management principles.
- Good understanding of Credit Union philosophies and principles.
- Skills: leadership, management, emotional intelligence, communication, report writing, collaboration, integrity, confidentiality, critical thinking, analytical and investigative, decisive and detail oriented.
- Ability to exercise professional scepticism: looking for evidence of potential fraud, manipulation or deviation from financial reporting standards.
- Proficient in “Sharetec” or similar software, accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
